Dream

“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams
and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined,
he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”
Henry David Thoreau

Just

JustWhen I saw this from above at the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan
last week, I didn’t know quite what to make of it, but somehow
it absorbed me. Perhaps its warmth spoke to my longing
for the sun on a winter day; perhaps its symmetry
symbolized justice in our unjust world.
Whatever the reason, I decided to
stop thinking and just enjoy…

Invincible

“In the midst of winter, I finally learned that
there was in me an invincible summer.”

Patterns

Patterns
As the new year starts, we’ve been programmed to make resolutions
for how we plan to change our spots in the coming year.
It’s been my experience that they rarely work.
Instead I like to take stock of the areas
where I made progress in the
past year, then settle on
a few intentions:
old patterns
I’d like
to break,
or new ones
I’d like to initiate.
This gives me more latitude,
more room to rearrange those spots
rather than expect them to change completely.

Leap

The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery.
There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will,
and the solution comes to you and you don’t know how or why.”
Albert Einstein

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday
for so many reasons. First of all it is inclusive…
everyone can celebrate together.  Second, there is no gift giving, therefore,
no shopping and no money wasted on gifts that people return anyway.
Third of all, the food is yummy, all except the turkey which tends to
be dry no matter what recipe you decide to use.
🙂
So even if you don’t live here in America
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Powerless

The  recent loss of power by so many of us
in the Northeast has fed right into my persistent belief
–and the premise of my Phantoms series—that we are perilously too
reliant on technology in order to communicate on the most basic level.
Now when I view the most recent Phantom taken in New York about
a week before the hurricane, I’m quite spooked by
the premonition it seemed to convey…

I prepared this post with obvious reference
to the hurricane that miraculously caused no major
damage to my beloved beach. On Sunday when access
was permitted for the first time since the storm, I was expecting
the shore to be largely eroded. Therefore, it was
a surprise to find it mainly in tact.

On this day after the election, it seems that
this post also applies to last night’s Obama win. I had been
bracing for an upset, loss of hope and change so desperately needed
here in America. Again I was pleasantly surprised!
